Abstract

This report represents a clinical study of experience with 7 cases of abdominal injuries, causing traumatic injuries to the biliary system in children, which were treated by surgical intervention at the Pusan National University Hospital during 15 years from octobor-1957 till March-1972. 1. Blunt abdominal trauma is an increasing problem. 2. Biliary tract injuries due to blunt trauma are rarely occur at any point in the biliary tree. 3. There is often long delay in diagnosis and treatment due to indolent nature of the bile peritonitis. 4. Facilities for operative cholangiography should be available in exploration for blunt trauma. 5. Laboratory examinations such as hemoglobin level or leucocytosis are not significant in this series. Abdominal tapping is strongly recommended in patients suspecting injury on the hepatobiliary system. Abdominal tappings were done in 7 cases and showed positive findings such as blood and bile juice in every case.
